DIY Christmas Tree Topper

Want to top your tree with an original and handmade Christmas tree topper? Take a look at this easy tutorial for a star shaped topper made from rolled paper. Make it as big or as small as you want, it suits all types of Christmas trees whether they are artificial or real.

If you want, use coloured paper to add a bright burst of colour to your Christmas tree, but we think the unconventional tree topper looks best when made from sheet music or book pages.

What you need:

  • Book pages or sheet music (cut to different sizes)
  • Cardboard circle
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glitter (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut a cardboard circle to a size that is suitable for the top of your tree. Obviously, if you want to make a big star then make a large circle. The cardboard circle will determine the size of the finished star.
  2. Take the bigger sheet music/book pages, twist into cones and stick to the cardboard circle with the hot glue gun. Start around the edges of the circle and work your way around.
  3. As you move towards the centre of the cardboard circle use the smaller pages to make smaller cone shapes.
  4. Carry on until the cardboard circle is covered with cones of sheet music or book pages.
  5. When it is finished you could decorate the edges of the cones with glitter to add a little sparkle that will reflect off the fairy lights.

This DIY project also looks great when done using smaller cones to make handmade Christmas tree decorations simply by attaching a small string. Look at these mini stars...
