DIY Paper Lanterns

Paper lanterns are inexpensive to buy and with a few materials can be transformed into amazing party decorations or room adornments. Hang them up inside or outside and instantly brighten up the surroundings with our quick and easy DIY guides.

Colourful paper lanterns

 

Tissue paper is the perfect material to stick onto paper lanterns as the light shines through and creates a colourful glow. Cover a pre-bought lantern with tissue paper in any colour of your choice or stick on in vertical strips and create hot air ballon lanterns! Alternatively layer the tissue paper in strips of colour and make a rainbow paper lantern like the one above.

Petal paper lanterns

  

Cut out petal shapes from tissue paper, card, even fabric and stick them on to a lantern with a hot glue gun. Layer them starting from the bottom of the lantern and work your way up. Great for decorating rooms at parties and events.

Geometric modern paper lantern

Remember those paper fortune tellers you made as a child? Well create some more and stick them on to a pre-bought lantern with a hot glue gun to make a crazy geometric paper lantern.
