DIY Palett wood clock

Recycle an old palett and create a DIY clock! Recycled palett wood is durable and has a great 'vintage' look that is perfect for adding a bit of style to the walls of your house. Purchasing a wall clock like this can often be quite expensive but making one is an easy and affordable alternative.

 You will need:

• Palett wood
• Screws
• Scrap pieces of wood (preferably in strips as they will be used to attach the palett together)
• Paint and wood stain
• Paintbrush
• A jig saw to cut the wood
• Pen/pencil
• A Sander
• Scissors
• Clock mechanism

Steps

Take an old palett and cut the pieces to a size that is easy to work with. Join them together into a square shape and secure by nailing the scrap wood pieces to the back.

If you want to make a circle clock then now is the time to pencil the desired circle size and cut the palett using a jig saw. Or, if you would prefer to create a square clock, just neaten the edges by sawing any excess wood.

Dont worry if the sawing isn't perfect as it adds to the rustic style of the clock.

Sand the wood so it is smooth and will be easier to paint. Make sure to round off the edges where the wood is roughest.

To create an even colouring and give the wood a more aesthetic appeal apply a wood stain with a brush and wait to dry.

You can paint the clock using acrylic paints or just keep the natural wood exposed.

Next, find or make a stencil template that you can use for the numbers or roman numerals. Again use acrylic paints to apply the numbers to the wood.

To make the paint appear more 'distressed' then go over with a white stain and sand parts of the wood to give it an uneven, faded finish.

Drill a hole through the centre and attach the clock mechanism.
